A family physician is a medical doctor who provides primary care; a specialty requiring specific residency training in the care of newborns through seniors. A family physcician treats acute and chronic illnesses, provides preventive care and health education for all ages and both male and female patients. Some also care for hospitalized patients and do minor surgery.
